Ian Desmond

My name is Ian Desmond, I grew up just outside of Boston in a suburb called Weymouth. I spent most of my time there until I was 20 years old and moved to Milton, MA. I started a job working underground utilities out of a company in Hyde Park. After about a year and half of work there I decided I wanted to join the Army to widen my job opportunities and to see what physical and mental barriers I could surpass. I enlisted as 11B, an infantryman. Being an infantryman I was told it wouldn't help me out in the civilian world, I would say they are wrong. I have learned more about myself and how to work with other individuals. Learning how to adapt to situations both good and bad while continuing to keep composure. I have took place in numerous events where situations have came and tested my capabilities. My strengths are that I am adaptable, quick learning, attentive, hard working, and always want to learn and improve on whatever "craft" I come across. My qualifications include many from basic leadership mentoring, all the way to having driver licenses with military vehicles. I plan to get my CDL-A class before I officially get out of Army. My career goals are endless and I want to learn as much as I can and be a jack of all trades. Joining a union has always been something I wanted to do but not having the exact connections and expierience prohibited me from joining. Being in the military I knew would be a serious help for me to have that upper edge on a lot of other individuals. Aquiring a electrical license is something that has been in my goals for some time and I will work towards that as well.
